Position Summary:

The Director of Resource Development is a leadership position responsible for development and implementation of resource development strategies, in conjunction with the Executive Director and volunteer leadership, which reflect the mission, strategic goals and community impact plan for the United Way of Kootenai County. The Director provides primary staff support to the annual campaign, special events and the community Day of Caring.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • A bachelor’s degree is required, graduate degree preferred.
  • At least 7 years of progressive growth in fundraising/sales/marketing with demonstratable progression in levels of responsibility and achievement.
  • High energy, results oriented;
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to influence key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and developing fundraising initiatives (or comparable activities within the corporate sector) preferably in a human service setting.
  • Exceptional public speaking, oral and written communication skills;
  • Strategic, creative, progressive thinker.
  • Demonstrated success working and building effective, collaborative internal and external relationships to advance organizational goals and outcomes.
  • Analytical and interpretive ability of internal and external data; strong database/spreadsheet experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Well organized, strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Excellent customer and donor relationship practices.
  • Strong executive presence; professional with personal confidence and maturity; Highly ethical approach to all aspects of assigned responsibilities.
  • Proven experience in Major/Leadership Gift development and donor relationship building.
  • Grantwriting, and planned giving experience a plus.

Position Accountabilities:

  • Create and implement short and long term strategies which include measurable goals for the various components of the resource development plan. The strategies will include oversight of the annual workplace campaign as well as the identification, cultivation and solicitation of prospective individual and corporate donors.
  • Evaluate and refine information capture systems, procedures for reporting, internal reporting systems, donor acknowledgements, tracking, and data mining systems. Deepen relationships with current and potential donors through year round communication through a variety of channels.
  • Create and develop strategies to recruit and develop an adequate and diverse pool of effective volunteer leaders to support the resource development functions.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with key volunteers, business leaders, individual major donors, foundation program officers, and corporate contribution officers.
  • Evaluate and manage existing recognition programs of individual and corporate donors. Insure that recognition programs maximize the relationships United Way of Kootenai County has with these donors and reinforces the mission for UWKC.
  • Participate in the development of the organization’s budget and provide appropriate oversight of the department budget.
  • Oversee the Community Day of Caring
  • Oversee Workplace Campaign
  • Analyze previous campaign results including overall dollars, donor retention and increase in reach.
  • Develop dashboard indicators to measure results for all components of resource development.
  • Implement technology solutions wherever possible to achieve results and accuracy.
  • Incorporate relationship development strategies in workplace settings.
  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and leadership of the Loaned Executives.
  • Assists in creating the appropriate level of customer service to design company-specific campaign plans.
  • Assist in assuring website and campaign material satisfies donors’ informational needs.
  • Assist in the implementation of Community Impact strategies in the workplace, such as lunch and learn related to Born Learning or Financial Stability Partnership.
  • Develop donor incentives
  • Launch special giving initiatives.
  • Incorporate the strategies of consultative selling to motivate donors to invest to their greatest potential.
  • Create resources by matching corporate philanthropic interests and United Way’s work through initiative and focused grants.
  • Develop sponsorship opportunities to companies.
  • Seek in-kind gifts to significantly reduce United Way’s cost of doing business.
  • Identify potential Tocqueville and Centennial donors through segmentation strategies.
