2008 Community Care Fund Grant Cycle
Letter of Intent Instructions and Guidelines
The mission of the United Way of Kootenai County is to improve the quality of lives in our community by encouraging and recognizing volunteerism, collaboration and giving.
The United Way of Kootenai County (UNKC) is pleased to announce its 2008 Community Care Fund Grant Cycle. The UWKC does more than just raise and distribute funds. It is our goal to align funding, volunteers, partner agencies, government and grants with programs that work. Our donors expect their dollars to work hard. United Way is aligning its resources to goals targeted at positively changing community conditions. We want to measurably improve the quality of people’s lives and build a stronger community.
The Board of Directors for the United Way of Kootenai County has been spending a large amount of time this year in strategic planning and defining how to best identify and address community needs. In this process, we determined that a best practice in meeting community needs is to bring groups working in similar areas together to work collaboratively towards addressing root causes to community needs. To begin thinking strategically, we have identified three key focus areas in our community. Those areas include:
- Children – Helping kids succeed.
- Families – Strengthening Families and Neighborhoods
- Seniors – Assisting our senior population in staying independent
United Way invests in programs and organizations that pass a rigorous process. A team of community volunteers conduct agency reviews, and site visits, and make funding decisions based on accountability and results. Under the focus titles, are included homelessness and housing, early childhood learning, access to health care, feeding the hungry, helping people to become independent, safe places for children after school, and so on. If you’d like to know where your agency fits, please call the UWKC office for technical support. We’d be happy to answer any questions and help in any way possible.
Your organizations first requirement to receive funding for the 2008 United Way Community Care Fund grant cycle is to complete a Letter of Intent. Letters from interested non-profit organizations are due by Friday, February 15, 2008. A team of community volunteers will review the Letters of Intent. Those agencies and programs that meet the funding criteria will be asked to submit a Request for Proposal (RFP) in more detail.
