A. 27 local agencies and programs

Q. What is the goal of the 2005 United Way Campaign?

A. $525,000

Q. What is the percent of increase from last year’s goal?

A. 16.5% increase

Q. What is the vision of the United Way?

A. In a rapidly changing world, the United Way of Kootenai County will continue to grow as an active partner in building a stronger and healthier community through charitable leadership and compassion.

Q. What is the mission of United Way?

A. “To increase the organized capacity of people in Kootenai County to care for one another”.

Q. How much money actually goes to provide help and solutions for people?

A. 90% of what is given goes to support 27 Kootenai County agencies and programs that support our youth, seniors and families.

Q. How much is the overhead/administrative costs for United Way?

A. 10%—Utilized for fund raising, overhead and volunteer support costs The majority of the work is done by over 200 volunteers.

Q. Who runs United Way?

A. The United Way is run by approximately 22 board of trustee members, accountable for the oversight of the organization and ensures the mission will be fulfilled. The board hires the executive director who runs the internal operation.

Q. How many people are served by the agencies supported by United Way?

A. One out of three people are served in Kootenai County. Or approx. 50,000 friends, neighbors and family members.

Q. Do you fund Boy Scouts?

A. Our United Way of Kootenai County does fund Boy Scouts —their allocation is $8,000.

Q. Does the United Way have a non-discrimination policy?

A. Yes. The United Way of Kootenai County abides by the Equal Opportunity Employment Act treating individuals without regard to race, religion, sex, color, national origin, age or disability.

Q. May I designate my gift to an agency…..field of service?

A. Yes. You may designate your dollars to an agency as long as they are a non-profit agency.

Q. Does United Way of Kootenai County donate local funds to its national organization, United Way of America?

A. Yes, United Way of Kootenai County is a member and pays a small membership fee of less than l%. In return, the United Way receives training for volunteers and staff, public service announcements, reduced rates on supplies and campaign films, availability of grants, etc.

Q. How does United Way support local agencies?

A. United Way allocation volunteers evaluate and determine on an annual basis the greatest needs in the community. This past year, 27 agencies’ programs and projects were supported ranging from 5% to 77% of the agencies’ total budget.
